I can see people having unexpected weather events and not being quite prepared for calving due to unusual circumstances.. But calving in the dakotas, not too far out of February without barns or bedding doesn't seem like proper animal care.
Forgot is a neighbor of mine and if you drove by their operation you would be able to see that they take very good care of their livestock.
