The only way you should use virtual sync'd drives like Dropbox with QuickBooks, is for transferring the company file between PCs. That is, copy the *.QBW file to Dropbox, then on the other PC, copy it from Dropbox to a local hard drive before opening it in QuickBooks.

Otherwise you risk corruption of the data file or a Conflicted Copies error with the virtual drive. How you describe using Dropbox has been done by a lot of people "for a while". Only those who are very lucky have not had problems.
