I have had hardware charging issues on my airII. The first piece of apple hardware that I felt was failing. It would continually boot and reboot while charging and u could effect it by wiggling the cable. Have tried at least 6 cable with all but 1 acting up. I plan on selling back to apple while it still has some value. Hope they come out with updated hardware before planting season.
I have similar issues with my iPhone 6. I'm usually able to get improvement by cleaning the lightning connector on the phone. I have a real cheap case that I prefer but it does not cover the lightning connector. I carry the iPhone in my pants pocket and the connector will often get lint inside. I use one of those plastic Soft Picks designed for cleaning your teeth to clean up the connector. This helps for a while.
I think the iPad Air II that I posted about above seems to be healthy again. The connector there seems a bit iffy at times as well.
