Well, you could be extremely unlucky but are you handling it correctly as far as refrigeration or freezing? Too long in a refrigerator isn't good no matter what type of meat. Maybe it's going bad from too high of temperature for too long? As far as the guy saying it smells like manure, maybe he sells pasture pigs or something.
