The big producers and packers have gotten what they have been trying to do for probably 30 years. They have managed to put almost all of the small producers out of business so they can control the market and the end product, and the end product is a take it or leave it attitude because this is the choice you have. In our area it is nearly impossible to buy a live hog that does not come from a large confinement pen. The same thing has happened in the dairy and poultry industry. It is trying to do the same in beef . Large producers of all products is not always the best for consumers , usually it makes cheaper to buy products and also less quality products, but that is okay because big business is what the American way is all about.
