Northeast Missouri
I've planted a lot of corn with planters like these. What you need is simple to make. A piece of 1/4x1" flat bent in a modified "U" shape. The sides will be approximately 4" long with the top around 8" (relying on memory here). Weld a bolt in the center to go through your drawbar. Drill a hole in the bottom of each side to attach the springs you pictured. To set the latches pull on the right chain to move the latch to that side, then hook the left chain with very little slack while not extending the spring. Repeat for the opposite side. The setup works very well when adjusted correctly.
