North East Wimmera district of Victoria.

I laughed  - " end of Summer growing season"!

Summer here is usually hot and DRY. Usual to get a run of several days about or above the old 100 deg F., then a cool southerly change.

We grow winter crops.

But our rainfall is winter predominant, wettest months long term are August and October. but that said, there are exceptions! This summer - after a drought of winter/spring rainfall - thunderstorms have dumped heavy rain on some localities.

Our old farm received 4 inches in mid Dec, long after a misserably poor harvest, and just last Wed week another storm dumped another 4" in a hurry - like in three hours!

2010/11 Summer was another record buster. 11 inches from 20th Nov [I was just started harvest!] to  14th January. Local river flooded the town to a height only equalled in 1909 - in the middle of winter!.

Guess you could put it down to "Climate change!"
