Cell phones want to be in contact with a cell tower all the time. If the signal is weak they get kinda frantic and work very hard to phone home to their carrier to check for phone calls and texts that might be coming in.
This uses up battery power pretty quick.
I’ll bet your location in a parking area and putting the phone low under the seat in a car had multiple layers of seat cushion wires, car body panels, and so forth making it very hard to keep in contact with its cell signal and it ran full power the whole time.
