NW Iowa | Like Ken I got out of hogs for the same reason back in the late 90’s. It was scary because I knew that regular hog check would be gone and raising hogs has never left my mind. After the hogs were gone I started doing tractor repairs for local farmers in the shop to bring some income in between grain checks and that got me through till grain prices improved. I still have night dreams of having a barn full of hogs though. For the first ten years my dreams consisted of opening the barn door and seeing wall to wall perfectly clean hogs ready for market. Then those dreams eroded into suddenly waking up thinking I haven’t ground feed for a month and the hogs are starving. I had another one of those dreams a month ago. I hope your post dairy dreams are all good. | |
