NS Canada | In different things over the yrs I've used aluminum foil to direct oil into a drain pan. Some motorcycles and small engine stuff have their exhaust run under the pan, and then smokes like hell after spilling oil all over it, so the foil was cheap and easy to keep things clean.
Can't help ya on your other problem, but doesn't sound like foil will work there.
