If you can figure out the width issue with the front tires, you'll be fine. No need to keep it full any differently than if you had a 9670. You just won't ever run out of horsepower. That being said, you might need to run pretty fast in a 9670 with a 6 row to keep it full.
We are running an 8 row 893 with Calmer rolls on a 9870 and it works great for us. We roll along at a pretty good clip with it. The only issue I saw with running higher ground speed and faster head speed is the head auger throwing ears out every once in a while. I fixed that by running the auger off a hydraulic motor connected to the reel speed circuit, so I can slow it down independently of the rest of the head using the reel speed adjustment in the cab.
