You want wider than tractor, but for me the bigger thing is narrow enough for driveways to get beside car.
In deep snow 8 feet will stop almost any farm tractor depending on how fast you go. The bigger thing in sizing is to buy one rated for the hp you have in front of it. I think you have to buy heavier with 4wd because you push them harder.
