East Central SD | This is a very important level of management that (IMO) most farmers don't understand well. I am constantly amazed at how often paying taxes is viewed as a positive thing. The only reason a business should show income is for real estate purchases.
There are numerous ideas on what traits make a successful farmer. I strongly believe one thing that successful farmers do better than most is tax management, debt management, and understanding how the two relate. I am college educated with an ag economics minor and a life long learner and I have not learned anything on these topics over and above what my father "just knew". | |
