| A bit of a dumb question perhaps, but I have my reasons.
How do you spread manure from spreaders (not draghose)? Growing up on a 40 cow dairy, we set the dry spreader at setting "x" and then ran it. If it ran out 3/4 the way, so be it. Then we probably ran crossways for the extra area. So in a way I was spreading a volume per acre.
I then worked for a guy with 200-300 beef cows who wanted the spreader to make a round (set the dial to make the round), as he didn't want unnecessary compaction or deadheading. So I wasn't spreading per acre necessarily.
So what's the NAT way of spreading manure? Do you spread X gallons or tons per acre and deadhead it back to the front, or do you adjust your rate to make a round and minimize compaction? | |
