Floyd County, Iowa | Because you said it does it after starting.
I'd start by tightening every supply fuel line connection.
From the fuel tanks forward.
They can suck air without leaking fuel.
Hopefully you find one slightly loose.
.
If no loose fuel line then..........
Some came with plastic, and some came with cloth covered rubber fuel lines
Check each supply fuel line for rubbing / chafing.
Again, they can suck air without a visible leak.
.
. NOTE: The below items usually cause a long cranking before starting, but I thought I would mention them anyway
.
It could be the one way valve behind the head on the fuel return line.
When they start to get weak they seep and let the fuel out of the head.
The engineer that decided to put it there needs to try and change it sometime.
.
It could also be a leaking injector.
Sometimes a bad injector will dribble after the engine is shut off.
This drains some of the fuel out of the head.
Does the oil on the dipstick smell like diesel fuel? Or are you gaining oil?
Some people will taste the oil for fuel, not my recommendation, but they do. ;)
.
