Sounds to me like the engine may be rocking in the motor mounts and pulling on a wiring harness or fuel line. Pulls on a hose=sucks in air. Pulls on the harness=loose connection opens up or a short someplace touches. These intermittent issues are the worst. The N14 is old enough some shops just replace the engine harness when these issues come up.

Another thought, have you looked in the bottom of the fuel tank(s) for a piece of trash or a kernel of corn plugging the suction?
