You guys are correct, I forgot to multiply by pi after dividing the circumference by pi dividing THAT by two and squaring. That shows I need to work the problem a couple times before posting! Sometimes I just have a blind spot and may have kept doing the same thing even after working it several times. Apologies - Paul

Easy enough to do - - - that's for sure.
I'm real old school - - - wrote down the formulas on paper and then plugged in numbers then used the calculator on the 'puter.

To the person who is losing an 1" in circumference between inside and outside on the tank - - - I doubt that wall is anything over 0.125 - - - if its even that much.
The strength comes from it being 1 piece not from the thickness.

When the want a machine that can travel to the bottom of the Marianas Trench somewhere close to the Philippines - - - well a sphere of glass is used.

Why - - - glass gets stronger as its compressed (to a point) and a sphere is the perfect shape for that, a cylinder would break up.

(all these interesting and largely useless bits of info tucking into my cabbage roll - - - grin!)
