Yes it does because you now have 3 wires carrying the load rather than 2 also voltage is higher which allows more power to be carried on the same wire, what voltage 3 phase are you talking 240, 277 480v or even 585 (think that is a Canada thing??) but none the less if you are going from single phase to 480v 3 phase the wires that you had sized before can run a much much larger motor, after adding a 3rd power wire of course.
Voltage would only be higher, on the 3 phase wires, if the voltage of the system was higher than that of the single phase system. |
