We went from 12 to 24, skipped 16. Best idea ever.

A 24-row Kinze planter with the slide forward axle (like a 3700) is the same size and turns the same in transport as a 16-row planter with tires Between the rows at the rear of the toolbar. It’s actually not so different in size from the old JD 7000 12-30 we had before - a bit longer and narrower in transport/storage.

If you want to do it cheap, simple box 24-30 Kinze planters are ~30k + whatever fancies you want. By the time you fill 24 boxes you can plant 100-120 acres of corn, and you can load boxes in <15 minutes with a Clark EasiLoader by yourself. And I put in 3 different hybrids.

We haven’t sidedressed for a while but yeah, you give up a little summer efficiency with a 12 instead of a 16. With RTK we could probably siddress with 16 and never know it, though. And since you are using Y-drops you can cover the ground fast if weather threatens and it just rains your N in where you want it in that case.
