If he ran it straight out. Then it would not draft. Modine heater have a vent roll out limit switch in the top of the heater, it would trip all the time that way. You need vertical run to create draft.
I agree that if he ran it like your blue line it would condensate too. But more so because the pipe is ran through an unheated area.
He best bet would be to run it straight up inside the heated shop
