NE ND | 1980 something Moline hanging propane heater in my shop. It is backup to floor heat so does not run often, maybe a couple of times throughout the night. Snow is coming in the exhaust pipe at the roof during storms and melting inside the duct when the heat comes on. The water then drips out at the low spot.
Exhaust stack currently has a pyramid type of top and is mounted at the peak of the roof. I think the wind blows in just right sending in the snow anyway. I would guess if I put new ducting in straight up, I will end up with water running into my furnace.
What can I do with this? Not familiar with these older furnaces with the large exhaust ducts. Does exhaust pipe outlet need to be higher than the building peak or can I run the pipe out the side wall and use a flapper on the end? Thanks for any help.
