Subject: using the lathe

lizton IN

I needed to cut some thin wall brass. It goes on my K&T mill so oil doesn't run down a shaft. When I got the mill this was missing. It leaked oil bad. I don't have a parts book for my mill. I found one on line for a different model. There are two of these on the mill and they had the same part number. So I copied the one I had. The oil leak slowed down but was still there. Took it all apart again and saw the part I made wasn't tall enough. So I made this one 1 1/2" longer. It didn't leak when I turned it on and ran it. So I hope I can call this fixed.

Cutting thin wall anything can be a problem. The last cut you want as big as your lathe can do. This way your part is self supporting as you cut. If you take a light cuts it may not stay round.
