You are right at least to some extent. Pensions are a huge part of the problem. The solution though is quite complicated. I believe the only way to address it is to cut pensions drastically for new hire employees and make those currently employed or retirees responsible for a larger percent of their healthcare needs. I have a real problem with taking something away from someone that worked their whole life and planned their retirement around a pension that was promised to them. I don't care if you feel they are overpaid it is part of the terms under which they were contracted for employment and to take part of that away from them is unreasonable. Maybe you look at cutting pensions to some degree for those employed by the state for less than ten years or something like that. To cut a pension for someone that is already retired or is only a few years from retirement is total BS.
