Subject: Grain Bags

Madision County, IL
First year bagger. Almost all of our bags have moisture in them. It doesn’t seem to be much of an issue in corn but becomes a huge PITA in beans. It’s been like a monsoon since we completed harvest.

It’s better on a slope but isn’t completely eliminated. We have made a few mistakes with placement. Mice/rats chewing on both ends of the bag. That seems to be where we have most of our issues.

Based upon what we have experienced it’s all about location, location, location.

We did drive down stalks in corn fields and pushed down soybean stubble. It seems that bag is always a little bit lower than surrounding soil which make sense since the bag compresses the soil and residue.

Anyone adopted practices above and beyond placement to make sure grain inside the bag stays dry?

TIA,

Jay
