Subject: RE: Simmental Mark of Excellence Sale today

The sale averages across all breeds at the Expo were down this year but that probably was expected given the markets right now. Sim sale average was down $253 from last year but the bull average was only down $94. You can pretty much expect when beef prices across the board are lower your seedstock sales are going to adjust to that as well.

I attended the Hereford sale where the sale average was $3233, bulls averaged $3368 and there were some good ones that I thought went for much less than they should have while a few bulls evens struggled to get a $2000 bid to get started and probably wound up no sales. Angus and Hereford sales wound up being the top 2 sale averages at the Expo but both were down quite a bit from last year. Hereford average was down $684 with bull average down $530 and Angus was down $310 from their 2018 sale average. We usually set our private treaty bull prices after we see what the Expo sales do and after watching the sale our expectations have tempered down quite a bit. Guessing our price range will be about $500-1000 lower this year than what we asked for last year based of some conversations with some other breeders on what they have theirs priced at right now.
