Western illinois
I agree that getting around the metro area is pretty straight forward. However, traffic is horrible at times on all freeways (101, 202, 60). The local idiots drive like they’re in a NASCAR race and the snowbirds are below the speed limit in the way lol. South Mountain is a nice hiking area. Apache Junction is another possibility to the east. Drive North an hour or 2 to Sedona, depending on what side of town you’re on. Take a Pink Jeep tour or sight see. If you want to see farm land and some dairies and get a taste of Az agriculture, go south on 87 toward Coolidge. There is actually still some alfalfa and cattle feeding around Chandler and Gilbert. If you’re into casinos, the Natives have a few in the area.
