Subject: RE: Alalfafa seed

NW IL
Anybody ever do a variety cross reference for alfalfa?

I would have to imagine there are a lot of brand names and very few different seeds, probably worse then row crop seed?

Just isn't enough alfalfa seed sold to justify a huge offering. I would imagine licensing, rebranding, and rebagging would be more profitable.

I have used Pioneer, WL, Dairyland, and a few others and can't really say they are all that different from each other, save the roundup ready trait or specific characteristics such as tap/branch root that do better in certain environments.

Most of the plot reports I see in my area have the best variety and worst variety within a few points of each other.
