interesting thread, beef check-off is hosing us.back in the 80's it was proposed that check-off should come from the mercantile xchange so that packers and producers would share in promotion, like the charges when you close trades on the board.went over like a lead balloon.matterhan posted month ago or so what dairy culls are bringing, absolute disgrace,it is pulling dairy animals down too not just oversupply of milk.i get to Canada a lot[daughter plays ice hockey],one should see all the pots coming south with live cattle to be killed in our plants, meet quite a few canadien beef farmers who say usa market is extremely important to them.when you meet non-farming people and get around to talk abit about agriculture I am always asked why beef is so expensive.i have also noticed that restaurant prices have also risen significantly lately[maybe minimum wage increases, idk].so we farmers suffer and consumers suffer and consumption suffers.can't blame it on ethanol now.are cattle boards doing anything at all to address this situation?most endeavors in the usa are and should be paid by performance and achievement.
