Northeast Nebraska
Problem is places like schools and low cost restaurants only want the cheapest source of food they can get. They don't care where from. The average consumer thinks that if it's at a grocery store it must be safe. Heck my neighbor had bought Walmart hamburger for years and didn't even know the different between 80/20 and 90/10 beef.
We've got an organization in our county trying to promote local beef in local schools. The schools and papers love the publicity of trying it, but so far they want dollars kicked in to pay for it.
Educating the consumer needs to be the focus. A call to a congressman couldn't hurt. It's going to take actual cattlemen to get the consumer educated because there are too many alternative motives by packers and checkoff funded groups to keep the cheap beef supply coming in.
