| In a typical winter the Going to the Sun road gets at least 80 feet of snow and it generally takes until early July for it to be plowed. I was there in late August one year and there were snow piles around Logan Pass, some threatening to fall on the road. It was cool enough most of the birds had left and I had to scrape frost of the truck's windshield each morning camped in the park on the east side.. I found if I wanted to ride the red buses that I had to make reservations at least a week ahead of time. There were free shuttle buses that took me back and forth with nicer views than driving, especially when I got to ride in the front seat of the shuttle.
