Subject: RE: What’s a fair straw price?

southern MN
I sold some the last 2 years, straw in the field behind the combine buyer did all the baling, for 80 cents a small square. I don’t know how that relates to a large square.

Decades ago it was 50-55 cents. I’ve heard of some with really good straw getting $1.

I sold some to a fella that made round bales one year, it got confusing as he ended up making 3 different sized round bales. I was satisfied but can’t even remember where we were at with all the different sizes.

I think my buyer got out of dairy this fall, not sure what I’ll do with my 10 acres this year.

I always have some cover crop interseeded, so on my deeper soils I’m not so concerned about loss of organic matter.
