I take your point. Most major droughts typically start the year before in some fashion or another but I think there have been exceptions. Regional droughts are also very hard to predict because they tend to come about pretty quickly. I agree the odds of a widespread drought seem pretty low right now but you just never know. Especially when you look at the fact that we are long overdue for a pretty good drought. 2012 was the last one that I would consider cornbelt wide.
