We have not had any major problems with standability on the Shelbys. Maybe a couple reasons why. I've had down oats before with other varieties and understand well your dislike for them. So several years ago we cut our population back to two and a half to 3 bushels per acre. The main difference between us is that our soil is probably not near as good as yours. We farm hilly eroded S.W. Iowa fields compared to the nice soil in your pictures. The old timers used to say that oats did not like the best dirt. We do have a tote of Haydens ordered for this spring to try something else on a field that does have a little good bottom soil.

I believe most of the university yield trials rate different varieties for standability. I should have checked that before replying to you.
