Subject: RE: Dry Nitrogen in spring strip

central ohio
We have for 4 years. We typically run a blend of 150 MAP 50 Potash and 160 Urea to get around 90 lbs of N. We use dawn pluribus row units. We have clay soil 2 to 3% OM 10-15 CEC. We purchased the side band tubes from dawn and spit the dry on the outsides of both coulters. At first we split it 3 ways and blew a third of the fertilizer into the middle of the strip. Both of these ways work well. We have seen seed burn in a couple of situations mostly planting right behind the strip till bar. If you can wait a full 24 hours we don"t see many issues. Corn always looks really good coming out of the ground. The first year we did some trials and we mixed all of the fertilizer into the strip and we had more seed burn. Thats why we went with the sideband tubes.
