Eastern Iowa
I am about a week late replying to your post. 20 years ago we used to have all chemical custom applied, bought a used 45' sprayer about 15 years ago to spot spray field edges and old fence rows that had higher weed pressure. Then started spraying post products, then bought a new 60' Hardi sprayer about 12 years ago, moved up to a 90' Hardi to cut down on post emerge tracks due to narrow row soybeans about 5 years ago. I am guessing mid MN you are in 30" beans? If so 60' sprayer would be a good choice to start out, easier to keep boom edges out of dirt or spraying 8' in the air if you dont have an auto boom leveling device with a wider boom.

If you are careful and able to manage drift and get correct amount of product on your field a sprayer has a very fast ROI, not just in savings vs custom app but also in chem purchases. We went from paying over $40/a for branded corn program to less than $20 for the same pre followed by post program by using similar chemistry but from generic suppliers (Harness Xtra vs generic metolachlor + atz fb Callisto vs generic Callisto) Soybeans savings are not quite as much but are close to $15/a savings. If you are unsure of rates/mixing order read the product labels they have most all information you need. Also if other questions ask on this site, lots of good advice on here.

One thing for sure to consider is getting a basic GPS setup - even if WASS and a display to show where you have sprayed in a field. Really a valuable tool vs using foam and hoping you remember where you sprayed once the foam disappears!! Lots of advice and options on GPS if you search this site.
