Subject: RE: Autosense cable routing help needed???

That grey flex cable is a wear item. It is the only moving part on the Autopilot system, since the Autosense has to be mounted on the steering knuckle. If it used an actual potertiometer like other systems, then that would be the moving item. Thankfully, the cables cost a lot less than the potentiometers. Finer wires will generally last longer with repetitive flexing. When the wore is heavier, it will get stiffer with each flex, eventually resulting in a crack, just like any bit of copper.
If you do replace it with something else, just make sure its easy and convenient/low cost to replace. Routing it directly over the top of the king pin normally minimises the amount of flexing.
