What size are your calves? The ration you describe is only 10# of dry matter, and a 500# steer calf should be able to consume more like 18#.

Depending on your lab results, corn silage by itself is 48 NEg. A 43 NEg ration can be made with 75% Corn silage, 18.5% hay, 5% DDGs and 2% of the 40/20. To support the gain, you need all the building blocks including protein and minerals, and I'm figuring Rumensin is in there too.
