I think the best way to do p and k is off crop removal and can be done variable rate off your yield maps after harvest. The best way we have found to do nitrogen in our area is off of previous yield maps averaged to together. I would say a minimum three years needed. Soils maps don’t necessarily take into account drainage issues or trees from borders of fields or the fact that soils maps aren’t perfect either but are a guideline as to what is in the field. Until you have some good yield data I wouldn’t get to excited about varying the nitrogen. While precision agriculture is progressing it is still very hard to determine what really pays its own way.
