Stanley, Manitoba, Canada | I replaced the touch panel on our 20/20. Everything was still visible, but the touch part wasn't working correctly so we made it through last spring using a mouse.
Parts used: Mouser #817-N010-0554-T511; MMobiel 2mm double sided electronics repair tape purchased from Amazon (I'm sure there are many similar tape options available, but that's what I found.)
1 - Remove the 4 screws holding the back on
2 - Unplug the four black plugs from the circuit board
3&4 - Unplug the wide ribbon cable for the display (top right side); narrow ribbon cable for the touch panel (right side); and plug for backlight (top left side). Remove the 4 screws holding the circuit board and remove the circuit board.
5 - Remove the screw holding the ribbon cable onto the display (right side)
6 - Remove the ribbon cable. Remove the 4 screws holding the display in.
7 - Remove the display with the touch panel attached.
8 - Remove the touch panel from the display. Use a knife to carefully cut between the touch panel and display. You will still need to carefully pry the touch panel off. Don't worry if you crack the touch panel as it isn't working anyway.
9 - The old touch panel next to the replacement.
10 - The new touch panel next to the display.
11 - Prepping the display for the new touch panel. I cleaned all the sticky stuff off using a sharp scraper and goo-gone. I laid the new touch panel in place and marked the corners with a marker. Next, I applied the double sided tape to the display.
12 - Stick the touch panel to the display
13 - Reassemble in reverse order. Be careful to not bend any pins on the plugs. Boot the display up and calibrate the screen. Tap and hold until the calibrate screen comes up and follow the directions.
