C IL | Let’s use your questionable scenario and turn it on it’s head.
Second child (could be a boy, fine by me) busts his butt, becomes an MD, never takes a dime from the parents after he is 18. He has arrived and made it.
First child, could be a girl, stays home, works on the farm, takes care of the folks. Is provided housing and an allowance for 20 years. Works 7 days a week in the barn.
Dad decides to retire and sell it all. MD is entitled to half, right? Everything the on-farm daughter did to increase the value of the operation for 20 years, she gets half the residual value. Because the MD gets half of the increase in value for all the work she put in for 20 years (above the value of housing and an allowance). That’s reasonable, right? | |
