Subject: how long do you let engines idle?

S IL
I'm not referring to cold winter temps. Regular outside temp. I have a couple workers who tend to let pickup, tractors, trucks idle much more than I do. I will admit I'm very cheap and I think they are just wasting 50 cents worth of fuel. One guy used to be a long haul trucker and he would let the truck idle all night while he's in the sleeper. Just thinking about that with my truck stresses me out. He says the starter will last longer and I'm probably money ahead letting equipment idle.

So what is your rule of thumb regarding how long to let various types of equipment idle?
