Subject: RE: how long do you let engines idle?

East Central Saskatchewan
Up in the North here, I once heard about a crew that cleared bush during the winter a lot of years ago (back when diesels where not very sophisticated) and once they started there dozers in the later fall, they would run all winter without being shut off. However, those days are long over now with starting aids and such on machines, but still have had to idle things all day and night so they don't freeze up when it's real cold. The gravel crew near me has a D10 that they start on Monday and shut down on Friday, takes a few cans of either and a boost to start otherwise.
