Knew a trucker who would let his truck idle all night, while he slept, claiming it saved on engine wear, and he didn't need any 'warm up' time before he took off with a load. Worked out pretty well for him, until one time the fan/water pump belt broke in the middle of the night. When he woke up, it was no longer idling. I'd say, that caused more engine wear, than a lot of cold starts.
