Hey Starbuck,

I wrote a blog post about it here: https://blog.farmlogs.com/where-farmlogs-is-headed-2019, but the summary is: we want to keep investing in the product and we need our customers to support that if they want to keep using our service.

One important thing to note is that our changes won't cut anyone off from their data. Accessing any information you have in from previous seasons will remain free with no plans to take that away.

When the industry shifted to monetizing data instead of software we had to rethink our strategy. We don't want to exploit or sell farmer data so that leaves us with only one option which is to charge customers for the features they get the most value from. We added new upgraded capabilities for 2019 and redesigned our subscription plans to match what our customers are getting value from. We do have some options available to existing customers that aren't listed if you want to contact us at [email protected].

Our $99/month Complete plan offers a lot of services (including data coming from partners that costs us money). We are also making things like Data Entry Service and Imagery (both satellite and a new aerial service) available as optional add-ons for greater flexibility. We're trying to build an overall affordable offering for growers that gives you value at a reasonable price. We don't always get things right, but we appreciate you sharing your thoughts and will continue to listen and improve.
