| There are more factors influencing land prices than commodity prices. Go to a land sale and look who's buying. The tax cuts will help since most bidders will have more after tax income. We don't have estate taxes forcing sales since very few estates have to pay taxes. Low interest rates will keep banks from paying those with money a decent return on cd's. In the last five years crop farmers have been paying off debt and now are in a position to take advantage of a bargain land sale. And most crop farmers who are in financial trouble don't own land so there won't be forced sales. I'm afraid some of the dairies might be in a pinch more than grain farms. Increasing yields help even if crop prices are not as profitable as in the past. I don't think the best ground will see a big price drop. Good ground is held in strong hands and there aren't that many alternative investments. | |
