Subject: RE: Fat Holstien Marketing

Looking for advice to market future fat Holstien cattle. What should a person do, or where to market a group of Holstiens. The spread has been getting worse, and these will be raised on the ranch and not in the traditional feed yard. They will be fed a high concentration of grain and killed around 1350 lbs. Location is central Kansas. Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

First off if your gonna feed Holsteins, you absolutely have to have basis contracts. In our area JBS is the best place to sell Holsteins. Holstein finish weight is highly dependent on how the calves were fed early on. Most Holstein calves here are fed a shelled corn and pellet diet from early on. Lots of those finish out at 1350-1400 . There are grass Holsteins we buy out of Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee. These have much larger frames and may have a finish weight closer to 1500. Good luck
