Subject: RE: Inoculate soybeans after 4 yrs COC?

Northwest Pennsylvania
We double inoculate every acre of beans we plant plus our beans come preinoculated. We load our beans into the drill from a cart with an auger and spray liquid inoculant with a garden sprayer as they are going in the drill. The first year our beans came preinoculated we didn't add any extra and we paid for it. We had 150 acres that hadn't had beans before and the bacteria didn't develop on a lot of it. You could see there were dark green plants in spots which would have nitrogen on the roots. Most of it was sickly yellow with no nitrogen on the roots at all. When it was said and done we lost 30 bushel per acre or so on the 150 acres. Which at the time totaled for a loss of over $50,000 it was while prices were real high. Moral of the story don't skimp on inoculant.
