I’d still think a 2.5 acre grid has some value. Smoothing between them apparently isn’t perfect but the implication that it is pointless escapes me.

I also struggle with a 1 lb sample of grain can accurately represent 60,000 lbs of a load at the elevator...... same kinda deal.

I’ve never been around zone sampling not really heard much of it locally. Wouldn’t know how to pick zone areas. I have a 25 acre field with 14 mini peaks in it, more mini low spots between them, the peaks are lightly eroded yellow clay, the lows are heavier and heavier spots as the field tilts to the west where it turns into a muck bog, with ditch cleanings spread along that side. I’d think I would end up with 1/4 acre zones on that one!
