Ontario
I do cabinets on the side here so I can afford to farm.. a sheet of 5/8 melamine is heavier then a sheet of plywood, nothing wrong with melamine as long as it’s screwed together properly, we use the Kreg system that makes for very sturdy boxes, if you want a white or wood grain look melamine is neat as it requires no finishing and wipes up nice, the down side is it can’t be in wet, water will melt it like sugar in tea, prefinished plywood is really nice stuff to work with if a natural wood finish suits your room, either way you will need to edge band edges for a finished look. Your drawings look really good! Only thing I’d suggest is to raise it 3” off of floor with a toe kick, much easier to install if only gables touch floor and saves cabinet bottoms from getting wet, can always add solid wood to inside of gable in case it does get wet, will still last a very long time.
