Mid-range specs would be 8GB of RAM, i5 processor, 256GB solid state drive (SSD), Windows 10, and probably a touch screen. Anything more gets into the gaming arena. Anything less you'll out grow. Any of the major brands will be fine (they are almost a commodity now days) Dell, HP, Lenova, Microsoft, Samsung, Acer, Asus, and of course Apple.
